The $15,000 Uprise Champions Cup European edition will not see its finals play out in Moscow, Russia due to an overlapping date with the Acer Predator Masters Season 2 finals and will thus conclude online.
The $15,000 Uprise Champions Cup: Europe was announced back in November 2015 and featured 16 teams in an online GSL group stage, some of whom were invited, some of whom qualified, and some of whom advanced due to their placings in the third Uprise Champions Cup season.
UCC: Europe promised to also have the six teams which advanced through its second group stage in December attend eventual $15,000 LAN finals in 2016 (with an additional $5,000 in travel support), which were tentatively scheduled for late January or early February.
FlipSid3 will be one of the six teams dueling for $15,000 online rather than offline
When the final dates were fixed for the UCC: Europe finals, they were set in stone as February 11-14 in Moscow, Russia. However, an unfortunate and ironic piece of news occurred when the second season of the $40,000 Acer Predator Masters was also postponed due to scheduling conflicts in January with new dates of February 11-14.
Due to the overlap of some teams in both competitions (E-frag.net, Vexed, FlipSid3) and their desire to not abandon APM Season 2, UCC have decided to cancel the LAN finals with the option of other dates in February also not being feasible due to a strong saturation of tournaments for this month.
UCC therefore talked to their streaming partner DingIt.tv and have agreed on an online finals instead featuring six teams, which will take place from February 17-19. An offline studio will also be set aside for the Russian stream and feature Russian casters.
The second group stage for UCC: Europe has actually not finished as Group A has yet to play out whereas from Group B the three teams advancing to the online finals are FlipSid3 Tactics, Team YP, and Nostalgie. Group A will play out in the coming weeks.
In addition, it has been announced that Vexed have dropped out of Group A due to their travels during the same time of the online bracket to the EXL Expo Barecelona event. A replacement team will be announced shortly.
